Zachary’s Grill Room – backstory

Keith Stuart, one of the visionary founders of Pezula Private Estate, was not just a pioneer in luxury real estate but also a passionate dog lover. His two faithful companions, Zachary and Noah, were inseparable from his side and together, they embarked on extravagant adventures around the globe, exploring the finest Michelin-starred restaurants and luxury resorts all around the world.
Zachary and Noah’s presence quickly made them celebrities in their own right, earning admiration and affection wherever they went. When Keith established a restaurant and bar at the then Pezula Hotel, it was only natural to honour his beloved pets with names that reflected their importance. Thus, the restaurant was named Zachary’s Grill Room, and the bar was called Noah’s Bar, a tribute to the dogs who had become global sensations.

When Village n Life took over Pezula Hotel, we, as fellow dog lovers, chose to retain these cherished names. However, with our shift from a luxury hotel to a Nature Retreat, we also embraced a new vision for the restaurant. We transitioned from fine dining to a family-friendly dining experience, focusing on sustainability and supporting local.
Our commitment to the environment is at the heart of our operations. We prioritise minimising waste and are dedicated to recycling. Kitchen waste is transformed into Bokashi tea, which nourishes our beautiful grounds and supports our sustainability efforts. We also prioritise supporting local farmers and businesses, the lifeblood of our community.

The Sesame Tuna was great once we asked for some soya sauce, but the chicken schnitzel was average, served with garlic less garlic mash, and cold tasteless parmesan sauce. The Margarita cocktail was a huge disappointment at R110. Cheap Tequila and a complete lack of an orange liqueur or sugar syrup. The ambiance was okay, with music blaring too loud for the first part of our meal, and then the music just stopped. Management needs to make a decision whether there should be music or not, before accepting guests. All in all, an average experience. Noah's Bistro seems a likelier option in future.
