    ....if there were ever to be a Michelin Guide for South Africa: the Wortelgat would be candidate number 1 and yet it is by no means out of the ordinary: on this wonderful wine estate the matching restaurant !!!!

    The philosophy of Springfontein and Chef Joseph with the service team around ‘Mama Zee’ and ‘Tuffy’ is a ‘wine & food’ pairing and not the other way round. This works perfectly and so we were happy to have chosen the 9 courses (with a few surprises in between) without feeling overfed afterwards and without regretting not having been tempted by the spectacular wine list.

    We are still lost for words - we didn't expect this. Chef Joseph Pook's version of a Springfontein Surf & Turf was the highlight for us - in addition to the fantastic wines, whose unique terroir was explained to us in an unobtrusive and highly competent manner...

    What a treat – simple but most subtle and delicate, down to earth yet sophisticated. A young chef and his sympathtic crew, a long time established highly professional however warmest front of house. Culinary artistry and exceptional sommelier knowledge against the backdrop of a unique winery form a melange not better imaginable. So we could easily look past the fact that one of the kitchen novices should perhaps not appear in a t-shirt.
