With Head Chef Ebie du Toit at the helm of day-to-day kitchen operations and Gray Chikwape directing the Front of House team, working alongside Dale Roberts and Pot Luck Club Group Head Chef Jason Kosmas, Jozi diners can look forward to the same much-loved menu of Asian-inspired small plates served in the new stylish restaurant space at The Peech.

Opened in November 2004, multi-award-winning boutique hotel The Peech has evolved into a contemporary Joburg destination over the years. Known for its afro-chic luxury decor and service, the property is spread across thirty-two rooms and suites surrounded by two acres of indigenous gardens.

Expect familiar favourites and exciting new dishes to be ordered as guests please and enjoyed as a small plate sharing experience for the whole table.

Gourmet Guide Description

Now, the bustling hub of Rosebank enjoys the energy and creative culinary flair that made its Cape Town counterpart so famous. The Pot Luck Club offers an experience that tantalises the senses, combining sophisticated flavours with a relaxed, contemporary atmosphere. The space is characterised by an edgy yet elegant design, with custom lighting that adds a touch of whimsy and artistic flair.

The extensive, eclectic menu features over 20 petite dishes that draw on global inspirations while celebrating local ingredients. The restaurant’s format encourages diners to mix and match to create their own culinary adventure. It’s ideal for Johannesburg diners who, as head Chef Ebie Du Toit notes, appreciate the freedom to choose their own dining pace and experience.

Among the standout dishes is the lobster taco, served with a smoky chipotle glaze, radish ceviche, and coriander mojo. Each bite is a seamless fusion of crispiness, zest, and the right amount of saltiness. Another must-try is the beef sirloin tartare, served with rich black garlic emulsion and a bright yuzu dressing, exemplifying their knack for balancing robust flavours with refined presentation. Vegetarians are not left out–choose the king oyster steak with black pepper cep au lait sauce and the beetroot tartare served with hoisin
dressing and ponzu mayo.

Overbooked and crowded. Cafferteria-like ambience. Portions intended for two are difficult to share.

We had Sunday lunch at this stunning venue. Everything was high class. We really enjoyed the tasting menu and the effort put into this gastronomic delight. The ambience was relaxed which is hard to come by in the city and they played a great selection of music. Service was well done. Thank you! Highly recommend.

Probably the worst dining experience I have had in South Africa. The place is horrible - more like an airport coffee shop than a fine dining restaurant. The service was dreadful. The food mediocre and overpriced. The waiter did not ask if we had dietary requirements- and then presented a dish with coriander which I’m allergic to. We had two glasses of champagne which were flat - when we complained the waiter started shouting at us saying the bottle was only opened just now - despite the fact it was almost empty and had obviously been open for days. We then ordered wine by the glass - the measure was so small it was ridiculous. The manager then gave us a lecture on how many glasses of wine are in a bottle. Avoid this terrible restaurant at all costs. The place is about how much money they can squeeze out of you and nothing else. R1,5OO per person and we left hungry. And at these prices they have paper napkins. Total rubbish. Don’t go!

The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg responded on Mon 14 Apr 25:
Dear Mr Palmer, We appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and we are sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. On the evening you dined with us, we offered 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly to apologise for not requesting your dietaries at the outset, we shall address this with our team. We would like to reassure you that our Somm confirms this bottle was opened shortly before it was poured for your table. Our by-the-glass wine pour is 150ml, the equivalent of 5 glasses per bottle, which is standard for most dining establishments here in South Africa. The interactive dining concept at The Pot Luck Club is based upon Asian-inspired sharing plates, and the signature table setting is intentionally simplistic, including bamboo chopsticks and branded paper napkins for both Cape Town and Joburg dining establishments. We are sorry to hear you felt underwhelmed.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday here last night and now he can tick Pot Luck Club off his bucket list. What an amazing experience! Such a friendly welcome from staff, our waitress must be the best we’ve ever had at a restaurant. All our needs were duly noted! We enjoyed each dish so much, combinations of tastes and textures immaculate. We stayed much longer than we planned to, thank you for such a wonderful experience!
