I had high expectations for my recent visit to The Collective at Hyatt House in Rosebank but unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. While there were some positive aspects, several key issues, especially related to communication and the dessert, significantly impacted the overall enjoyment of the meal. To start with, there was a notable shift from the advertised buffet-style service to a family-sharing format. I completely understand the reasoning behind this change, but what left me disappointed was the lack of communication. I had to ask about the change myself, which seemed a bit careless, especially when the menu update was clearly shared in advance. A simple heads-up would have gone a long way in ensuring a smoother experience. But the real letdown came with the dessert. The updated menu had promised a selection of cheesecake, assorted tarts, and fresh fruit—items I was really looking forward to. Instead, we were served plain brownies. I had to ask whether the ice cream, which was mentioned on the menu, would be arriving. When it finally did, it was clear that the dish was hastily arranged. What bothered me further was that the ice cream had been pre-plated, which seemed odd given that our reservation was for a shared meal, not an à la carte experience. It felt like a last-minute attempt to salvage something. After inquiring about the missing tarts and cheesecake, the staff reluctantly explained that those items were leftovers from the New Year’s Eve dinner and that there hadn’t been enough prepared for the New Year’s Day lunch. This was frustrating for two reasons: first, why were these items still on the menu if they were no longer available? And second, it was disappointing that I had to chase down this information myself, rather than being proactively informed. Eventually, we were served a tiny portion of cheesecake and peppermint crisp tart—some of the smallest servings I’ve ever encountered. There was barely enough for everyone at the table. This lack of attention to detail was especially disappointing given that I had made the reservation well in advance, expecting a more thoughtful experience. Ultimately, my visit to to The Collective fell short of expectations. Despite the lovely setting and the potential for a great meal, the uncommunicated changes, lack of proactive service, and underwhelming dessert left us feeling like an afterthought. It’s a shame because with better communication and more attention to the dining experience, this could have been a truly special occasion.

We booked at the Deck so we can have alcoholic beverages with our meals. However, this was closed with no communication. We should’ve been informed that we won’t be served alcohol prior. Not happy with the service at all. Ruining our new years Eve plans

Ambience and service were amazing. The food could have been better. Not bad, not outstanding, just OK. Savouries, except the pies, weren't too good. Brinjal was amazing. Five stars. Steak was too tough first time around. The second round was excellent. But there wasn't any more thereafter. Chicken was good. Fish a bit too tomato focused. Cheesecake lacked flavour
