Situated on the mezzanine above Galjoen. It is an intimate restaurant with a tasting menu experience that riffs on gastronomic nostalgia in a contemporary reimagining of ‘surf and turf’ by demonstrating the broader creative potential of sea and land ingredients brought together in imaginative ways and washed down with offbeat wines.

High tables with tall chairs create a faintly bar-like atmosphere, and through the large rectangular window, there’s an unexpected view of Table Mountain visible over the chefs’ shoulders. The design scheme imaginatively evokes the shoreline – that in-between place where land and ocean engage in a kind of eternal conversation. It is a creative, simple, and sophisticated space with the focus absolutely on the food.

Brilliant mix of dishes and flavours. The service was impeccable and so friendly and passionate helping us get our drink selections right and describing the dishes perfectly. What a culinary journey with a beautiful view of Table Mountain and a short hop to the main downtown areas of Cape Town. Such inventive food including a sea lettuce mezcal margarita, octopus and nduja flatbread and beautiful sauces and broths with every dish. The tasting menu was manageable but didn’t leave you feeling overwhelmed which was great. Such a special experience! Made even better knowing everything was seasonal, local and sustainable which for a seafood heavy menu is not easy and they pulled it off.

Seebamboes is a wonderful new eatery created in collaboration with the Belly of the Beast team, on the site of their second restaurant, Galjoen. The restaurant concept is modern surf and turf. It is a small sixteen-seater that operates out of a mezzanine level above Galjoen. It is a beautiful, intimate space, with spectacular views of Table Mountain over the roofs of nearby buildings. As we experienced the 10 course set menu, we watched the sunset over the mountain and the city lights blink on. It was magical. The food was sublime. Each dish was a carefully curated marriage of flavours, with elements of the sea and land in all. Foraged seaside plants like dune spinach were used to wonderful effect. Favourite dishes were the Flatbread platter, a mini feast in itself with zingy pickles, stracciatella cheese, nduji paste, octopus, and a seaweed chimichurri; the Dive-in Bowl, beautiful pieces of seared steak in a delicious dashi; Cape Bream, a ceviche-style dish with marinated apricots and pork crackling; and Swellendam Lamb, a finger-licking combination of lamb bites beautifully complemented by a tomato carpaccio. The small wine list contains interesting, unusual wines, many sourced from the Swartland and coastal areas. There is a large selection of wines by the glass, which allows for a varied wine experience. The kombucha selection is a wonderful, flavourful, non alcoholic addition. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and made our evening and absolute pleasure.
