Midweek dinners under the stars, Friday nights with friends, special occasions celebrated in style, and a delicious breakfast menu – join us for a memorable dining experience in the heart of Plettenberg Bay.

The main dining room sits in the oldest part of the hotel, in the original building constructed in 1777 as an army barracks for the Dutch East India Company before being converted into an Anglican rectory in 1869. An exquisite, centuries-old stone wall adds warmth and character to the space while the building’s heritage inspires a bistro-style menu that draws on Dutch, English and South African influences.

We had the feeling that we were not welcome as external visitors to the restaurant. We missed the friendliness that we got to know and appreciate on our tour - both at the reception and in the service. Too bad! The food was OK.

Restaurant 1777 at The Old Rectory responded on Fri 10 Jan 25:
Hi Rainer I am shocked about the perception of not receiving a warm welcome when you visited us recently for a meal. Our team takes great pride in creating a friendly warm atmosphere which is portrayed in other guest comments. I would like to thank you for bringing this to my attention, it will be attended to immediately.

Great vibe, the calamari portion was very small for the price, but otherwise a really great day!

Restaurant 1777 at The Old Rectory responded on Thu 02 Jan 25:
Hi Sasha I am pleased to see that you had a great day with us yesterday. Our standard calamari portion is 240gr, if we were a bit stingy in our portions, huge apologies. The kitchen takes pride in their consistency and high standards, we will definitely re-check all portions. Hope to see you soon for another great day. Leon and The Old Rectory Team

Prawn linguine was delicious - well balanced chilli and sweetness of prawn. Delightful, knowledgeable waiter, Priscilla, was a treat,
