Quills Restaurant, in uniquely African fashion, offers guests the opportunity to experience spectacular restaurant dining in Kempton Park, Johannesburg at InterContinental O.R. Tambo Airport. An 18-metre (59 foot) porcupine quill mobile suspended from the ceiling of the restaurant sets the tone, as does the dramatic collage of traditional African masks. The spirit of Africa – its energy, originality, and passion – is reflected in its authentic cuisine.

Guests can enjoy delicious breakfasts, cosmopolitan lunches and contemporary dinners. Specialising in local dishes paired with outstanding South African wines, the restaurant’s distinctive atmosphere is one that reflects the warm hospitality of South Africa’s City of Gold. Quills Bar, meanwhile, serves an excellent variety of cocktails, local wines, ciders and beers, and provides the ideal opportunity to relax, socialise, or simply spend quality time with friends and family.

Group bookings are welcome.

There was quite a long wait for the maitre D to come and seat us. While most of the food was delicious some mistakes with the order meant two of our party had to call the waiter back and ask for it to be corrected (the wrong sauces were sent out). Most disappointing though was the fact that the menu stated that many of the options were gluten free when they were not. Thankfully our diligent waiter explained that they weren’t safe for coeliacs. This made ordering difficult but also raises the question as to why the chef allows meals to be printed on the menu as safe for coeliacs when they are not. Then the poor wait staff are then left to answer questions they have no power over. The menu should be reviewed and corrected as a matter of urgency. That took the dampener off what was otherwise a delicious meal in a very convivial setting.

The food is superb, the wine list is excellent and the service both responsive and attentive. The kitchen too was very responsive, making dishes from the day menu available to us at dinner. In particular, the lamb chops which are sublime, We were a large party of seven. Seated at a round table at the end of the restaurant was wonderful, it was like being in a private room. Thank you for the care!

It took way too long and the seafood was overcooked and had probably been sitting around for some time.
