As a regular enthusiastic customer, there was no doubt I’d take my foreign guests to Mozambik for that wonderful vibe and food. What a wrong decision this was - we had a pretty disappointing evening. Let me explain why: 1. Our waiter - enthusiastically describing himself as “always on fire” - took over half an hour to bring an ashtray and, worse so, the drinks we ordered shortly after arrival, and only when he had to be reminded of both. 2. When he finally came to get our food order, we were hopeful that it would take no longer than 30 minutes until we would eat. We waited another hour (!) for our food. A glass of wine ordered in between did again take ages to arrive. 3. When the food arrived, two out of four meals were indeed as ordered (Prawn and Calamari combo and Prawn/Chicken Espetada), but cold after the waiter had been bouncing around with the plates, chatting to guests on a neighbouring table instead of serving first. The third meal was entirely wrong - a steak instead of a prego; the fourth one was a salad with dressing specifically ordered on the side. When it arrived, the customer asked again to confirm if there was definitely no dressing on the salad, which the waiter did - whilst after the first bite it was clear: the salad soaked in oil, and was therefore returned. Two people in the party were now eating their cold but tasty meals, whilst the other two waited for theirs. The waiter promised free desserts to the two lady waiting. 4. Eventually, the salad returned. Instead of a fresh, dry, dressing-free one, the kitchen had simply poured out the dressing and returned the salad. Not acceptable. Customer gave up complaining as it was now late and had started raining - and ate the salad. 5. The lady that was given the wrong meal and also promised ice cream still waited for her food, which eventually arrived in hve we moved inside due to the rain (waiter did manage to get us a table inside downstairs, thanks). Taste was good, but the rest of the party now had to watch her eating. Two more drinks were ordered. They did not arrive by the time even the fourth delayed meal had been eaten. Waiter was reminded twice, and also asked to bring that said free ice cream - all in vain. Eventually the party gave up, asked to cancel the outstanding drinks (which then arrived as one customer of our group spoke to management) and the apologetic desserts, and get the bill. All in all, it was such a disappointing and annoying experience over almost three hours of waiting, reminding, explaining, begging. The joy of having a meal together with friends was ruined by late food, cold food, wrong food and food served at different times. Service was beyond sloppy, with the waiter vanishing for up to an hour at times, not honouring orders despite reminders, not checking in on the party when glasses were obviously empty. The lack of realising their mess-up and making amends really does not reflect well on the maitre d' and those in charge during that night. I am not sure if management had failed to plan efficiently and strategically to cater appropriately for the amount of guests, or if our particular waiter was simply not up to standards. I usually enjoy Mozambik because the service is swift, fun and efficient, the food great and the overall experience simply lovely. I hope that last night was simply an outlier (and not the first indication of dropping standards), but I will be hesitant to continue going there or recommend it further until I have my faith in them restored.
