La Parada Bar De Tapas first opened its doors in Bree Street – Cape Town’s hottest food strip – as a tribute to the Spanish bars that bewitched Hemingway. La Parada offers tapas born from Spanish heritage but curated for the South African palate.

With an impressive interior, boasting ornate pressed ceilings, a miscellany of chairs and lampshades and an eclectic selection of Spanish tiles, La Parada specialises in sharing small plates that incorporate a Spanish flair and a great vibe. With many patrons popping in for afternoon drinks and a light bite, rather than a sit-down dinner – which is after all the origin of tapas – the drinks list encourages as much experimentation as the menu.

    It was average. Ordered wings and prawns as starters and a long island which was quiet short compared to other similar rated resturant. Our waiter higlighted that sunday is a better day due to soul session. I personally wo t go back and the food was quiet pricey. Nothing bad nothing super great.

    We hosted our year-end function at La Parada, having enjoyed a previous birthday celebration there. Overall, the service was decent, but there were some delays when taking our orders, and we had to repeat ourselves a few times. However, the biggest disappointment was the hookahs. We specifically requested a mint flavor, but different flavors arrived, and the packing was very poor. This led to a subpar smoking experience, which was quite disappointing compared to our last visit. We didn’t check our bill closely when paying, but I plan to review it today and will be requesting a refund for the hookahs if we were charged for them. We hope La Parada can address these issues, as we would love to return for future celebrations! Xander - 0823088259

    **Restaurant Review: La Parada, Irene** Nestled in the charming locale of Irene, La Parada exudes a vibrant atmosphere that promises a delightful dining experience. However, my recent visit for a year-end lunch left a mixed impression, especially regarding the service. The ambiance was welcoming and well-suited for the festive occasion. The menu offered an array of tempting options, and the food we eventually received was delicious, with flavors that showcased the chefs' skill. However, the portion sizes felt underwhelming, particularly considering the premium price point. Service was where the experience faltered. Despite the restaurant not being particularly busy, our group encountered noticeable delays. Drink orders were slow to arrive, and the wait for food stretched uncomfortably long. This was especially disappointing as our director's meal took so long to prepare that she considered canceling her order altogether. While the quality of the food is commendable, the inefficiencies in service management detracted from the overall enjoyment. La Parada has great potential, but improvements in service speed and portion size value would make it a more compelling choice for diners. For now, it’s a venue I’d recommend with reservations, particularly for those with limited time or high expectations for prompt service.
