La Motte invites you to JAN Franschhoek, an exceptional food and wine experience presented from a charming historic cottage, the Veepos, right in the middle of the Franschhoek Valley’s most picturesque lavender fields. Based on the popular TV series, JAN Franschhoek, this seasonal culinary encounter shares a nostalgic story with food as told by South Africa’s first Michelin-starred chef, Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen.

JAN Franschhoek’s team will include a culinary collective led by JAN Group Executive Chef Antro Davel operating under Jan Hendrik as Culinary Director.

Dinner & lunch is served at one communal table.

    On arrival no one explained anything and we were all just standing there not knowing what to do. An hour later some guests were placed in a van for transport to a different location, and others were just left still with no information. Finally getting all 18 guests to the main settling for dinner the food was really bad. Two out of six-ish courses were ok (like something you’d get for lunch at your local restaurant) and the others I would not even serve my dog. Wish it was possible to add pics to this review for you to see by yourselves. One dish looked like something a cow had ruminated. The lamb was cut like someone had dropped a chain saw into it and it was dry and sheepy. Even the sliced tomatoes had their stems still. The wine pairing was ok considering what it was paired to. Having managed to get a reservation to this at least now I know I will never have the desire to return, and with this knowledge I truly wish I had not gotten a reservation and saved my money for something good instead. Such a colossal difference from the restaurant once situated at La Motte.
