Hey Joe Brewing is a wonderful venue with great indoor and outdoor seating. Bathrooms were clean and serviced regularly. Beers are great. However, the service and food was really poor. We waited almost an hour to be served and eventually went to the bar to order our own drinks. Most of the party ordered hamburgers and they did not even ask what temperature we want it prepared - everything came well done. My husband ordered the steak and he said it was flavorless but was cooked to the right temperature. This place has such an opportunity to be great, with a bit more focus on service & food quality. One of our party was in a wheelchair and we had to push her through loose stones (which looked beautiful) to get to the ramp - it took 2 people on each side to get through the stones, A simple wooden deck could easily alleviate this.

We were a table of 12 and unfortunately everybody agreed that it was one of our worst dining experiences we have ever experienced. From start to finish it became comical. After being seated for 20 mins we had to ask for some menus and to try and order drinks. The drinks would arrive in dribs and drabs as glasses were constantly being dropped and smashed. The starters when they arrived after an hour were ok. We couldn’t really fault them. After an hour and a half they came out to check the order as they only had a record of 11 and not 12. After two hours the food finally came out! Unfortunately it was terrible. A number of the meals had obviously been sat under a hot lamp for over 30-40 mins and these vegetarian dishes were inedible! We had a really mixture of dishes and only 3 of the burgers were fully consumed. Everybody else left a large portion it their overcooked and tasteless meals. When we complained about the food nobody seemed to be taking ownership of the calamity that was unfolding around us. The hotel manager from across the way was trying his best to help. But we had to suggest to him that the meals were missing ingredients and inedible in some cases as they were congealed. When we came last year we had quick and prompt service and the burgers were ok. The beer was obviously fantastic when we could get a drink to our table. One of the most bizarre dining experiences ever. None of us will be returning!

Been intending to visit Hey Joe for close on 10 years, finally an opportunity arose and was not regretted. On online check of reviews before our visit flagged that ownership had recently changed and with that there were a few poorer reviews so there was some apprehension . Rest assured the new owners have taken critique on board and have hired a new house manager (previously from Reubens) and the evening was brilliant, the ambiance and service was top class and the food quality right up there with any of the top fine dining eateries in Cape Town (and I’ve been to a few in my time). The beers and tasters were a fantastic example of the upper echelons of the craft fare in Cape Town so If you’ve been delaying your visit, delay no more… it will be worth it…

This was quite disappointing. I have been to Hey Joe a few times in the past and absolutely loved it. This time, I was less impressed. I took friends there visiting from overseas hoping for the vibey atmosphere and good easy food, but there was no vibe, the music was awful, the food was not great and the service was very slow to start. I assume the construction of flats that I was not aware of, was also why people are avoiding the restaurant, but it has lost its charm. The surroundings used to be so much nicer. When dining in Franschhoek, you want to see the surroundings, not look into a block of flats. I really hate writing bad reviews, but I was quite embarrassed and I doubt that I would return.

The stout beer was one of the many things we can rave about at "Hey Joe". The service was super friendly and efficient and the food delicious. I highly recommend the ribs! We will be back soon!
