Both my wife and I enjoyed the experience. In researching the restaurant, we (I) did not research the menu correctly. So the set menus was a bit of a surprise. However, the experience was lovely, we were celebrating our anniversary. The team looked after us very nicely.

We actually realized an incorrect booking at Grub & Vine instead of The Chef's Warehouse to celebrate International Women's Day with my wife, but was the experience equally enjoyable as we're frequent patrons of the Norval restaurans. The bubbly was good although what we wanted was out of stock and, with a wide choice of wines from the extensive wine list, we were very surprised about the high cost of the wines and drinks. The food was equally awesome as usual with a taste explosion with every bite! Well done, chef and team! The service was good and the ambience great. One thing which I question was why the 12% included levied tip which was calculated inclusive of the required booking deposit on which an admin fee is also levied by DinePlan. As this is prepaid and deducted only after all costs are charged and tips calculated, I feel a bit taken. Anyhow a great experience with great food.

We were required to pay a R700 deposit in order to book, which we certainly would not have done if we knew the restaurant would not even be fully booked. While I understand the concept of pre-payment due to so many people not honouring their reservation, what we did not enjoy is the fact that the only options on the menu were hugely over-priced (for the quality of the meal) set menus. Had we not already paid the deposit, we would've left - as we saw some other potential diners do. It was quite remarkable to see the couple sit down at the table next to us, only to leave after perusing the menu.... We do not mind spending good money for a meal and drinks, but our bill came to R1904 for 2 people for a meal which really was not worth that, in our opinion. A 12% gratuity is also automatically added, though the service was not outstanding at all. We had to ask for ice 3 times before it was provided and the restaurant really was not that busy. 10% we would have gladly paid, but believe this should be done at our discretion. Bottom line: over-priced food on a menu which is not ala-carte (minimum 3-course set menu forced on patrons...?). I accept that we should've checked out the menu online before booking. My mistake. But this experience will prevent me from ever booking a table where a deposit is payable, as one is then forced to accept what is on offer or cause a scene. The latter is not something one does on a relaxing night out. Will not recommend and will NOT be back, though the ambience and decor was good! Kudos to the interior designer.

Had the 2 course menu with canapes - it was delicious. Expert, friendly service from Petronella and team. We sat in the Green Room which was perfect for us as less noisy than the other areas.

This was our favourite restaurant during our holiday in Cape Town, it was the only one we visited twice. Lovely atmosphere with excellent food served by pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Thank you for our unforgettable experiences.

Well below par this year.No manager in house overseeing and the service was brusque and inattentive.I had the DUck as recommended medium rare.It was overcooked and dry,so sent it back.Norval is so much better and perhaps Chef Max is now concentrating there. We have been going to G & V since the first week he opened and standards this year definitely lacking, sorry.
