Mediterranean dining reimagined. Ethos; the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its attitudes and aspirations.

“For generations, the shores of the Mediterranean have been deeply alluring: Embedded in its story is not only the warmth of its spirit, but the romance of its tales and its people – the feeling of timelessness brought on by its ancient and iconic landscapes”.

My husband and I made a last-minute dinner reservation at Ethos. I had the Italian meatballs and my husband the Kleftiko. Both dishes were delicious, the wine was good, the service impeccable and the ambience calming. We’re Capetonians and will most certainly make this our go-to whenever we visit again.

I was really looking forward to celebrating my birthday here but I was left really disappointed. The majority of the wines were not available on the menu yet there is such an extensive wine list. The sparkling wine I had was flat signalling that it has been open for a while. The restaurant was empty so the ambience wasn’t so exciting. The decor is good but our table wasn’t set with enough cutlery and napkins. There was no course salt. The food was nice but cold, service by Lordy could’ve been more attentive. The restaurant didn’t make any effort to celebrate my birthday. Overall a disappointing evening and will likely not return.

Ethos always is an incredible place to dine. It is really an establishment that is always on point from ambience to service to quality of food. Absolutely loved the meals we ordered. Tomohawk pork cut and lamb rack was the star of the show really.

Music was loud with lots of base. Does not encourage talking. The starters (Halloumi and Spanakopita) were delicious. We both had the Kleftiko lamb. The couscous was over spiced and when replaced with the mash, the mash was cold. The meat was nice in part. There were quite a few dry/ hard pieces though. Overall OK’ish but definitely not the fine dining you expect for the price
