In December 2004, owner Niel du Bois followed his heart, gave his creative spirit free reins, took the plunge and did what many people only dream about – opening an open air restaurant literally on a beach. Where the best seafood is prepared and enjoyed in Spartan surroundings – just like on the West Coast.

The first De Vette Mossel Beach Seafood Restaurant was born. On an isolated and pristine beach at Groot Brak River near Mossel Bay.

Thanks to the continuous support by our newly found Mossel friends, De Vette Mossel grew and grew. At De Vette Mossel your hosts are local Hermanus residents, Gustave and Charne du Bois. They grew up with De Vette Mossel and love the sea and all it has to offer, as well as hosting guests.

    I had 3 guests from Germany & they were absolutely blown away by the setting, the friendlyness of the restaurant owner, the food, & variety...the quality was excellent & unpretentious...the host really took care of us & engaged us in conversation...we would love to come back...

    I could not rate any higher. Very relaxed atmosphere, the owner and staff makes you feel welcome and the food is in abundance. Went a few times and never left disappointed. You will definitely get your money's worth.

    This was a great experience, pure relaxation and friendly atmosphere. Our kids had a lot of fun, they were busy with various activities offered at the location. We are coming back for sure!

    We ordered additional prawns, and although we were informed that the prawns are not pealed, they were not deveined either. Still very tasty, but not so easy to devein after cooking which affected the overall taste experience.
