In December 2004, owner Niel du Bois followed his heart, gave his creative spirit free reins, took the plunge and did what many people only dream about – opening an open air restaurant literally on a beach. Where the best seafood is prepared and enjoyed in Spartan surroundings – just like on the West Coast.

The first De Vette Mossel Beach Seafood Restaurant was born. On an isolated and pristine beach at Groot Brak River near Mossel Bay.

Thanks to the continuous support by our newly found Mossel friends, De Vette Mossel grew and grew. At De Vette Mossel your hosts are local Hermanus residents, Gustave and Charne du Bois. They grew up with De Vette Mossel and love the sea and all it has to offer, as well as hosting guests.

    A wonderfully laid back and entertaining experience. Dis lekker om by die strand te kuier. There was an abundance of delicious food. Gustave, Charne and their team were lovely. Charne took care of a special seafood potjie for my husband who has a shellfish allergy. I love their vegetable garden and relaxed atmosphere. I’ll be telling all my friends to visit.

    We as a fam really enjoyed everything... my kids says to us there was too much to do... and we said to them yes and there was alot of food.. my birthday well spend.... thank you so much for your hospitality... we will recommend your restaurant to anyone... Herdien Family..

    Value for money,go hungry and pace yourself,you will sertainly not be near hungry when finished,great owners ,nice vibe and child friendly,i will certainly go again ,nice to go as group. The introduction to every meal was perfect and made the mood/vibe very nice.
