Our unique enclave on the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge is a sought-after wine destination where a warm welcome awaits young and old. Ranging from our knowledgeable and attentive staff and our world-famous Wine and Food Pairing options to elegant touches such as our superior Riedel glassware – everything combines to offer our guests a truly memorable experience.

Gourmet Guide Description

Creation’s new-look Tasting Room has introduced bright pops of colour with glass sculptures, complementing the all-encompassing views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Local, of course. Sleek wooden tables and sheepskin-covered chair seats in winter add to the welcoming ambience indoors. Here, every season is given equal emphasis with a sensory food-and-wine pairing menu crafted to stage the regional bounty.

The vine leads the way, with six courses conceptualised to make the wine shine. The Ayurvedic ethos ensures that tasters and diners leave with a lightness of being. The focus on wellness ensures that, from the amuse bouche, your blood sugars are kept steady. Ingredients are not overworked; simple ingredients eloquently combined, like tofu, sesame seeds, and ginger, are fried to create a delectable crust. Chef Eleanor Niehaus leads a unified kitchen brigade, many of whom hold wine qualifications and are sent to Europe for constant exposure and
upskilling. Every team member is obviously passionate about the place, produce, and their role.

Attention to detail is sublime. Note the pottery plate pressed with a Pinot Noir vine leaf, the silk scarf presented for you to touch, a feather, and even a shell to hold to your ear – it’s all part of a multi-course odyssey that engages every sense, a testament to co-owner Carolyn Martin’s sixth sense. There is something for everyone, from breakfast and a kid’s menu to charcuterie and cheese platters. It’s unofficially the gastronomic ambassador of the Overberg and Cape Floral Kingdom, simply heaven on a plate.

We came to Creation last year and didn’t do the Art of Creation food/wine experience. This year, when visiting the area, we booked a 5 person experience. Our seating was at 13:30 and the experience went u until 17:00. There were significant delays in our food, which meant that we either had already long completed the wine pairing portion or they were offering a second tasting of the same wine when our food came out. We enjoy a longer experience but we had to order bread because our food was so delayed. Also, we all felt that the shell, velvet, and silk tactile parts of the experience were very touristy and not for a group who (while from the U.S.) were there to truly taste the food and wine. Because of this, I don’t think I would recommend anything beyond coming for a bottle of wine and a snack.

Monique was so good…my wife didn’t like the chick pea dish, but Monique, without asking, served us a plate of mini desserts to compensate. A lovely touch to our visit!
