Our unique enclave on the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge is a sought-after wine destination where a warm welcome awaits young and old. Ranging from our knowledgeable and attentive staff and our world-famous Wine and Food Pairing options to elegant touches such as our superior Riedel glassware – everything combines to offer our guests a truly memorable experience.

Gourmet Guide™ Description

Creation’s new-look Tasting Room has introduced bright pops of colour with glass sculptures, complementing the all-encompassing views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Local, of course. Sleek wooden tables and sheepskin-covered chair seats in winter add to the welcoming ambience indoors. Here, every season is given equal emphasis with a sensory food-and-wine pairing menu crafted to stage the regional bounty.

The vine leads the way, with six courses conceptualised to make the wine shine. The Ayurvedic ethos ensures that tasters and diners leave with a lightness of being. The focus on wellness ensures that, from the amuse bouche, your blood sugars are kept steady. Ingredients are not overworked; simple ingredients eloquently combined, like tofu, sesame seeds, and ginger, are fried to create a delectable crust. Chef Eleanor Niehaus leads a unified kitchen brigade, many of whom hold wine qualifications and are sent to Europe for constant exposure and
upskilling. Every team member is obviously passionate about the place, produce, and their role.

Attention to detail is sublime. Note the pottery plate pressed with a Pinot Noir vine leaf, the silk scarf presented for you to touch, a feather, and even a shell to hold to your ear – it’s all part of a multi-course odyssey that engages every sense, a testament to co-owner Carolyn Martin’s sixth sense. There is something for everyone, from breakfast and a kid’s menu to charcuterie and cheese platters. It’s unofficially the gastronomic ambassador of the Overberg and Cape Floral Kingdom, simply heaven on a plate.

Food not at a high standard, not bad but it felt more like the restaurant was trying to do something good but didn’t really have the skills to preform

We enjoyed a lunch. The smoked yellowtail taco starter sounded very promising, but unfortunately the taste of the yellowtail was completely overpowered by the lemon and lime. For main course, my partner had the beef fillet, and I had the springbok loin. The beef was fantastic, even though it was cooked medium (exactly as requested by my partner). The accompanying vegetables were equally lovely, the whole creating a beautiful balanced dish with complex flavours. My springbok loin was underwhelming, it was very soft and tender, but lacking in taste. The samp risotto was very enjoyable, but I did miss a third side dish. The result was a bit boring, since there were no other flavours to complement the loin and risotto. The service was impeccable, and so were the view and ambiance. The recommended wines also complemented the dishes quite well, although I must admit that I changed the red wine for my main course.
