Creation’s new-look Tasting Room has introduced bright pops of colour with glass sculptures, complementing the all-encompassing views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Local, of course. Sleek wooden tables and sheepskin-covered chair seats in winter add to the welcoming ambience indoors. Here, every season is given equal emphasis with a sensory food-and-wine pairing menu crafted to stage the regional bounty.

The vine leads the way, with six courses conceptualised to make the wine shine. The Ayurvedic ethos ensures that tasters and diners leave with a lightness of being. The focus on wellness ensures that, from the amuse bouche, your blood sugars are kept steady. Ingredients are not overworked; simple ingredients eloquently combined, like tofu, sesame seeds, and ginger, are fried to create a delectable crust. Chef Eleanor Niehaus leads a unified kitchen brigade, many of whom hold wine qualifications and are sent to Europe for constant exposure and
upskilling. Every team member is obviously passionate about the place, produce, and their role.

Attention to detail is sublime. Note the pottery plate pressed with a Pinot Noir vine leaf, the silk scarf presented for you to touch, a feather, and even a shell to hold to your ear – it’s all part of a multi-course odyssey that engages every sense, a testament to co-owner Carolyn Martin’s sixth sense. There is something for everyone, from breakfast and a kid’s menu to charcuterie and cheese platters. It’s unofficially the gastronomic ambassador of the Overberg and Cape Floral Kingdom, simply heaven on a plate.

    I usually love coming here, the wines are some of my favourite. This year nothing stood out to me, I usually buy bottles to take home. Our waiter was very friendly and polite but the service was very slow even though the restaurant was not particularly full. The half harvest platter, although delicious and beautifully presented, was disappointing for the price - mostly vegetarian bits and fruit, barely any meat.

    Great experience. Staff very well trained and friendly. Will definitely visit again. The Anton Smit sculpture exhibition is an absolute winner.

    Unfortunately I made a mistake and inadvertently added almost a thousand rands to my bill that wasn’t flagged by the staff which diminished my experience considerably

    Each visit deepens my appreciation. Wesley set the tone from the moment we arrived — a warm welcome, quite literally, with ginger tea that was exactly right for a winter’s day. Stefan guided us through the experience with exceptional knowledge — wine, sensory elements, the wellness philosophy that underpins everything Creation does. Knowledgeable, engaged and genuinely passionate. The winter menu was perfectly conceived. The agadashi tofu was extraordinary — a standout dish by any measure. The springbok shank, tender and deeply flavoured, was exactly what a cold day calls for. The dessert was gorgeous, made all the more memorable by the Anton Smit sculpture in chocolate — a detail that captures everything Creation does so well. The pairings were spot on throughout, and the surprise elements along the way elevated the entire experience. Creation continues to set the standard — not just for wine tasting but for what it means to make guests feel truly cared for.
