Our unique enclave on the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge is a sought-after wine destination where a warm welcome awaits young and old. Ranging from our knowledgeable and attentive staff and our world-famous Wine and Food Pairing options to elegant touches such as our superior Riedel glassware – everything combines to offer our guests a truly memorable experience.

Gourmet Guide Description

Creation’s new-look Tasting Room has introduced bright pops of colour with glass sculptures, complementing the all-encompassing views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Local, of course. Sleek wooden tables and sheepskin-covered chair seats in winter add to the welcoming ambience indoors. Here, every season is given equal emphasis with a sensory food-and-wine pairing menu crafted to stage the regional bounty.

The vine leads the way, with six courses conceptualised to make the wine shine. The Ayurvedic ethos ensures that tasters and diners leave with a lightness of being. The focus on wellness ensures that, from the amuse bouche, your blood sugars are kept steady. Ingredients are not overworked; simple ingredients eloquently combined, like tofu, sesame seeds, and ginger, are fried to create a delectable crust. Chef Eleanor Niehaus leads a unified kitchen brigade, many of whom hold wine qualifications and are sent to Europe for constant exposure and
upskilling. Every team member is obviously passionate about the place, produce, and their role.

Attention to detail is sublime. Note the pottery plate pressed with a Pinot Noir vine leaf, the silk scarf presented for you to touch, a feather, and even a shell to hold to your ear – it’s all part of a multi-course odyssey that engages every sense, a testament to co-owner Carolyn Martin’s sixth sense. There is something for everyone, from breakfast and a kid’s menu to charcuterie and cheese platters. It’s unofficially the gastronomic ambassador of the Overberg and Cape Floral Kingdom, simply heaven on a plate.

We had the duck and beef fillet as mains. Duck was completely overdone and left under the heating lamp for an extended period. When arriving at the table, it was grey in colour, tough and devoid of taste. Portions too small for a main. Fillet was overdone and parsley sauce tasted like cut grass and ruined any meat flavour. The only edible thing on the plates was the potato on the fillet. Wine paring with filled was a failed as you don't pair premium meat with a cheap braai wine. This was our 3rd visit to Creation and we will not be back as this was utterly disappointing
