I had a great lunch, ambiance, and service, and the view is spectacular. However, the food was average - nothing was wow-worthy.

Most wonderful evening with one of the best small plates menus we experienced. Only suggestion is to make clients aware that desert is not included in the price - I’m sure it’s noted on the menu but we missed it.

I recently had lunch at Coy at the V&A Waterfront. The food was lovely, the setting elegant — but the experience was slightly soured by a small but telling detail. I had specifically booked for the two-course menu, which is listed as one of the restaurant’s offerings. Still, we were asked if we wouldn’t prefer the seven-course menu instead. Just once — but it felt unnecessary and awkward, especially as I’d made the booking with the two-course option in mind. It left my guest feeling slightly embarrassed, as though we were being judged for not going all out. At a restaurant of this calibre, no diner should be made to feel second-tier for choosing one of the very options listed on the menu. The two-course lunch isn’t a discount meal — it’s still a luxurious and considered experience. The suggestion that it’s somehow insufficient or unworthy is not only unnecessary, it’s patronising. Coy has a lot going for it — but a little more grace in the service would go a long way.
