The Clay Cafe makes for a memorable visit of creativity and recreation for all ages. Nestled in the heart of hout bay, The Clay Cafe prides itself in creating an enjoyable experience for adults and children alike.

Choose from a vast array of unfired bisque (already made pottery pieces); and a wide selection of colourful paints and tools to create crockery that is both personal and completely unique, not to mention functional (all items once fired are dishwasher proof, microwave proof and oven proof). Spend a leisurely few hours painting in a relaxed environment with our friendly staff at hand to assist you while enjoying one of our many farm style breakfasts or lunches.

The Clay Cafe was founded in 1999 has recently moved to a brand new home as of December 21st 2016. This 2.5 acre piece of land is situated in the heart of the valley of Hout Bay. With a large open patio every table is close to the luscious garden and every child is ecstatic with our innovative playground. We have beautiful peaceful outside tables, as well as a veggie garden and our own African chic’ boutique. A day at the Clay Cafe makes an ideal day out for a ‘one of a kind’ creative experience. We offer children’s birthday parties, school outings, hen parties or team buildings and of course catering for the individual. All bookings 10 people or less can easily be booked online, hassle free.

Each person is given the chance to indulge in their own personal ceramic masterpiece while they sit back, relax and let us do the rest. We make all our food fresh from scratch everyday, so food is served when ready and is always a hit! We also pick fresh produce from our veggie garden to add into our salads and wraps.

Booking is essential, to avoid disappointment please book in advance. Bookings close the night beforehand and we allocate space for walk ins on the day; first come first serve. Please head to the tab ‘make a table booking’. For bookings larger than 10 people; including children’s parties, kitchen teas and corporate team building please kindly email info@claycafe.co.za. We are a ceramic painting venue with a full licensed kitchen; we don’t allow any outside catering besides a birthday cake. Please email info@claycafe.co.za for more information.

Was an amazing experience. Not my first time and lived up to expectations. The friends I treated to this experience thoroughly enjoyed it and are keen to return. Was so impressed that I was so welcomed with my guide dog, Geisha, as this was the first time I brought her with me.

The Clay Cafe never disappoints. We enjoyed sitting in the beautiful garden on a warm autumn day, complemented with painting our ceramics and of course, delicious food. The team was exceptional - showing patience and care with the group.

A beautiful place to relax and let your creativity take over. The tables are not cramped in giving you space to move around. There is enough items to choose from. The food and drinks are very nice. I can not wait to visit it on a cold rainy day. To sit close to the fire place and enjoy the rain while painting.

Great experience overall. Love the fact that the plates and cups etc. are all the same pieces that you can choose from. We did however notice that some tables had stickers with the word "DEMO" on it and where to shy to ask about it. that was maybe our only regret.

It definitely was an experience to remember the setting the food the activity and the scenery was just exciting and fabulous. A must for family, friends and kids no doubt. A special hidden away gem. However the service can be better. Frontline and some waiters are just distracted and poor at what they do. Whilst some waiters were accommodating others demeanor was just sour and dismissive. We were also ill informed abt how to go abt our tasks that both my partner and I ended up doing our projects in a tray rather than the turn tables as we were not advised as first timers. Preferably I advise to have a proper demo or a walk thru everything we have at our disposal to execute our tasks better. I did have a much better experience with a waiter outside the day before when I briefly popped in. Other than that I am impressed that they have a fully halal kitchen accommodating muslkm patrons and the food was good! I will definitely go again. For a worthwhile experience train staff better to have a better disposition towards patrons. Otherwise bring the individual tip process back as incentives shunt b the case though as I like idea of equality. Another alternative find ppl who enjoys waitressing or have a friendlier disposition. As I read some other reviews it seems to b ur only weakness...time to listen to ur patrons. Thnx for the experience and a shout out to the manager who was very helpful the day before.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, Kashifa, we’re really glad you enjoyed the overall experience, from the food and atmosphere to the activities. We truly appreciate your kind words about our halal kitchen and management as well. We’re sorry to hear that parts of the service did not meet expectations. Your comments about staff attentiveness and communication are taken seriously, and we’ll be addressing this with our team. We’d also like to mention that we do offer demos and walkthroughs for new customers, and we’ll work on ensuring this is communicated more clearly so every guest feels confident and supported. Thanks again for sharing your experience and we look forward to welcoming you back for an even better visit next time!
