The Clay Cafe makes for a memorable visit of creativity and recreation for all ages. Nestled in the heart of hout bay, The Clay Cafe prides itself in creating an enjoyable experience for adults and children alike.

Choose from a vast array of unfired bisque (already made pottery pieces); and a wide selection of colourful paints and tools to create crockery that is both personal and completely unique, not to mention functional (all items once fired are dishwasher proof, microwave proof and oven proof). Spend a leisurely few hours painting in a relaxed environment with our friendly staff at hand to assist you while enjoying one of our many farm style breakfasts or lunches.

The Clay Cafe was founded in 1999 has recently moved to a brand new home as of December 21st 2016. This 2.5 acre piece of land is situated in the heart of the valley of Hout Bay. With a large open patio every table is close to the luscious garden and every child is ecstatic with our innovative playground. We have beautiful peaceful outside tables, as well as a veggie garden and our own African chic’ boutique. A day at the Clay Cafe makes an ideal day out for a ‘one of a kind’ creative experience. We offer children’s birthday parties, school outings, hen parties or team buildings and of course catering for the individual. All bookings 10 people or less can easily be booked online, hassle free.

Each person is given the chance to indulge in their own personal ceramic masterpiece while they sit back, relax and let us do the rest. We make all our food fresh from scratch everyday, so food is served when ready and is always a hit! We also pick fresh produce from our veggie garden to add into our salads and wraps.

Booking is essential, to avoid disappointment please book in advance. Bookings close the night beforehand and we allocate space for walk ins on the day; first come first serve. Please head to the tab ‘make a table booking’. For bookings larger than 10 people; including children’s parties, kitchen teas and corporate team building please kindly email info@claycafe.co.za. We are a ceramic painting venue with a full licensed kitchen; we don’t allow any outside catering besides a birthday cake. Please email info@claycafe.co.za for more information.

Hi Clay Cafe We had such a good experience from making the enquiry to the service on the day for my son's 7th birthday. Our amazing waitress, Memory, made a stressed out Mommy relax and enjoy the celebration. The pizzas were all delicious too! Thank you sooo much :-) Natasha Marinus - Kobe's Mom

The food was good, although both items my table had needed salt. The table was too small for meals AND painting, so where possible it would be nice for tables to be pushed together when there is room. The staff did not explain the process to us, probably assuming we were already familiar with everything as we knew how to select our materials. However, we would’ve appreciated an offer to demonstrate the techniques of painting. We did ask eventually, and they were more than willing to assist. Overall lovely experience, definitely prefer visiting during the week when the venue is less crowded.
