The Clay Cafe makes for a memorable visit of creativity and recreation for all ages. Nestled in the heart of hout bay, The Clay Cafe prides itself in creating an enjoyable experience for adults and children alike.

Choose from a vast array of unfired bisque (already made pottery pieces); and a wide selection of colourful paints and tools to create crockery that is both personal and completely unique, not to mention functional (all items once fired are dishwasher proof, microwave proof and oven proof). Spend a leisurely few hours painting in a relaxed environment with our friendly staff at hand to assist you while enjoying one of our many farm style breakfasts or lunches.

The Clay Cafe was founded in 1999 has recently moved to a brand new home as of December 21st 2016. This 2.5 acre piece of land is situated in the heart of the valley of Hout Bay. With a large open patio every table is close to the luscious garden and every child is ecstatic with our innovative playground. We have beautiful peaceful outside tables, as well as a veggie garden and our own African chic’ boutique. A day at the Clay Cafe makes an ideal day out for a ‘one of a kind’ creative experience. We offer children’s birthday parties, school outings, hen parties or team buildings and of course catering for the individual. All bookings 10 people or less can easily be booked online, hassle free.

Each person is given the chance to indulge in their own personal ceramic masterpiece while they sit back, relax and let us do the rest. We make all our food fresh from scratch everyday, so food is served when ready and is always a hit! We also pick fresh produce from our veggie garden to add into our salads and wraps.

Booking is essential, to avoid disappointment please book in advance. Bookings close the night beforehand and we allocate space for walk ins on the day; first come first serve. Please head to the tab ‘make a table booking’. For bookings larger than 10 people; including children’s parties, kitchen teas and corporate team building please kindly email info@claycafe.co.za. We are a ceramic painting venue with a full licensed kitchen; we don’t allow any outside catering besides a birthday cake. Please email info@claycafe.co.za for more information.

Amazing place to be as always, but definitely not their best day, booked for 9am, was there on time but the place was still being prepped, had to walk around to give the staff a chance to clean around 9:15 had to ask our waiter to get out section cleaned as the cleaning lady left the bucket just before our table. Was asked if I know my way around, told them yes but my girlfriend would appreciate the full experience, our waiter was suppose to do his thing but 15 min later I stood up and took my girl through it myself. Hectic team spirit of the bakery section, colored lady screamed at a black gentleman with dreads who was surviving us ice cream after standing there for over 5 min, one of the waiters noticed and asked for someone to help us, the guy announced he's going to serve ice cream and the cloured lady lashed out at him and everyone involved was left making weird eye contact. Definitely booking for a later spot next time because of the heavy children crowd earlier on the day but amazing spot for friends and family and your significant other just not their best day this Saturday.

Was such an amazing experience with such a wide selection of ceramics to choose from and plenty of colours as well. Food was excellent as was the service upon arrival. Overall, a wonderful experience.

The painting experience was great. We were not happy with the food. The chips were over fried and tasted terrible. The Greek salad was served with rotten lettuce leaves, cucumbers looked old. Food like that should not be allowed to be put on a plate and served.
