One of the best places I've been to in a while! The braised beef shin was to die for!! The small plates were a good portion for sharing. Would highly recommend paying Chunky Chau a visit.

This was my 3rd visit in the last year. Unfortunately this 1 was poor. They were friendly and helpful. However the service was substandard. Could be a lack of training. We were not taken through menu. The starter pops 9 was not explained so although tasty I had no idea what I was eating. Asked what line fish was in stock she replied “line fish” I had to explain what line fish was. The duck breast was chewy. The fat had not been rendered and skin not crisped so really bad. The fillet steak came warm. Really a very bad experience because you do have a lovely menu. Very disappointed as I had guests from KZN with me.

Chunky Chau has potential, but I think I might have gone on an off night. I chose it to celebrate for a special occasion because remembered enjoying the food on my first visit, despite shaky service, but this time most of the dishes fell flat. The egg fried rice, for example, lacked flavor and didn’t stand out at all. The one highlight was the Garlic-Ginger loaded fries—though more “basted” than loaded, the sauce was delicious and really carried the meal (a lot of pressure to put on fries). Sadly, Both Bao - the sticky duck, and tempura prawn didn’t deliver. The tempura prawn, in particular, was a letdown, with no identifiable prawn, just an odd seafood-esque disc. We also tried a couple of cocktails. I was excited about the yuzu margarita, but it arrived tepid, which really dulled the flavour. After adding some crushed ice, the drink came alive. The watermelon vodka Red Bull slushy, however, didn’t leave an impression.

From the food to the service, I cannot fault this restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious! Our waiter gave us good advice on the menu selection as this was our first visit and true to his suggestions the taste of each meal certainly did not disappoint us. I highly recommend this restaurant.
