Chard Grill & Wine Bar is a bespoke establishment in the Village Square on the famous Hermanus waterfront.

While meat eaters have come to accept the view that a good steak has to be one of the traditionally tender and juicy cuts, at Chard the emphasis is on unusual and innovative cuts of beef as well as the old time classics.

Supplied by artisan butchers who are following the modern global trend to utilise as much of the carcass as possible, these new wave, alternative cuts are no longer flying under the radar and are presenting diners with a whole new culinary experience.

    Great friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. We enjoyed gin tasting, it was an interesting experience. We had a tasting platter of wet and dry meat cuts and a dry aged rum steak. The steak had prominent pleasant nutty flavour, but half of it (closer to fat layer) was very tough and chewy. It was the only tough rum steak I ever had. The cuts on the tasting platter: wet aged sirloin and rib eye were very average (from taste and softness prospective), while dry aged rum cut was tasty, distinctively different from wet aged cuts. In general, trying the dry aged meat was an interesting experience, but it sounded better than it was.

    Outstanding ribeyes and burgers delivered with smiles by Daniel and Chenga. Chef Grey did the steaks perfectly, which could just be the best we've had in the WC. Oreo s'more milkshake wasn't too shabby either!
