On the 1st November 1999, two well-aged, obviously grain fed ‘boys’ – Alan Lazarus and Derryck Myers – opened the doors and their hearts at Durban’s first Butcher Boys restaurant in Florida Road. For 20 years they’ve offered a comfortable dining experience while continuously striving to ensure that their patrons are presented with Great Steaks and Great Service.

With a restaurant now in Umhlanga too, they’re still serving only the best South African beef sourced from local farmers, with cuts that are either wet or dry-aged and grilled to perfection with their famous basting sauce.

Paired with a carefully curated selection of local South African wines, as well as an array of vintages, which are kept in refrigerated wine cellars at an optimum temperature between 16˚C and 17˚C, satisfaction and variety are to be expected from an adventurous menu.

    We had carpaccio starter that was fresh and delicious. It had a hint of pesto and the chilli sauce was amazing. For mains we ordered steaks the rib eye and filler. We ordered rare and it was rare. Dessert Irish coffee which was made well with the cream and coffee well poured. Service was good, not intrusive, yet attentive. Special shout out to Ash who made us feels so special as we ordered before kitchen closed as we just as we arrived from a long flight.

    The 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our delicious Sunday lunch. Men relished their 300g rib eye steaks with sides of baked potatoes and onion rings. Ladies loved each morsel of their Avo Dijon Sirloin steaks, with sides of pap 'n sous and rice. Our waitress, Patricia, was absolutely amazing, friendly and most obliging. A very enjoyable atmosphere and attentive "front of house" staff too. It was a pleasure having such a great Sunday meal at Butcher Boys, Meyersdal. Keep up the great service everyone!!
