On the 1st November 1999, two well-aged, obviously grain fed ‘boys’ – Alan Lazarus and Derryck Myers – opened the doors and their hearts at Durban’s first Butcher Boys restaurant in Florida Road. For 20 years they’ve offered a comfortable dining experience while continuously striving to ensure that their patrons are presented with Great Steaks and Great Service.

With a restaurant now in Umhlanga too, they’re still serving only the best South African beef sourced from local farmers, with cuts that are either wet or dry-aged and grilled to perfection with their famous basting sauce.

Paired with a carefully curated selection of local South African wines, as well as an array of vintages, which are kept in refrigerated wine cellars at an optimum temperature between 16ËšC and 17ËšC, satisfaction and variety are to be expected from an adventurous menu.

    We had a wonderful family dinner celebrating my brother completing his matric. The cocktail and drinks menu has a lot of variety which is great. We had starters for the table which were all really delicious and quite large portions so sharing was a good idea. The main meals were absolutely delicious, everyone was super happy with their meals. Our waitress was also excellent, our table was cleared very quickly and we were never left needing to call her back for anything. To finish off, we had the creme brulee which was absolutely delicious. Such a lovely experience, the restaurant itself has such a nice vibe to it, amazing food and really awesome staff. I would highly recommend paying them a visit and testing out their food, it was really worth it.

    Tried a Tomahamwk steak. Overdone on the edges, good on the centre and stiff towards the bone. Like 3 meals in one.
