We booked for the Valentine's menu after I had seen such glowing reviews of their Heritage Day menu last year., as well as a good meal we had enjoyed there last year. The location is really great with views over the vineyards and the cellar. We were late due to severe traffic congestion from Cape Town, but had phoned ahead and was assured that the 30 minute delay would be fine. Our table on the patio was available and we were shown to it promptly. But the service seemed to fall apart after that. We sat for 10-15 minutes with no waiter seemingly allocated to look after us. Eventually we caught someone's eye and requested some water and the complementary glass of Bacco chardonnay which was part of the menu. The water arrived after about 15 minutes but not much else. Then the complimentary brioche bread was delivered to the table - this bread is spectacularly made and so soft and flavourful - was probably the standout dish of the meal for my partner and I. The glass of Chardonnay arrived after the bread, which was not ideal, but we found it a delicious Chardonnay, not too wooded or buttery but with body and freshness. For starters we order the Duck and Pistachio terrine and the Burrata Pannacotta. Both were disappointing - the Burrata we felt would have been better as a straight burrata (rather than made into a pannacotta style) and the duck terrine was ok but lacking any defining/unusual flavours. We both had the beef short rib main (something we had enjoyed previously). Unfortunately there seemed to have been some confusion in the kitchen regarding whether these had already been served or not, so we had to wait a fair time for them - fortunately it was a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the occasion and not be too constrained by time. When is arrived, the beef was nicely tender, but again the course seemed to lack any defining flavours. It was served with a creamy polenta which was not very creamy and some the clash of textures was odd and the combination was quite plain. We finished with the Opera Gateaux and the Burnt Lemon Tart deserts. The slice of gateaux was tasty but I felt like it may have been standing out for a bit and wasn't as fresh as it could have been. The burnt lemon tart was very lemony but showed no sign of the "burnt" dimension promised. The accompanying ice creams were excellent. Over the meal we order a second glass of chardonnay and the Bacco Rose, both of which were very enjoyable, but only delivered after a fairly long wait.. I don't know if they were short-staffed for the day, but the waiters did seem to be busy elsewhere most of the time. Overall a rather disappointing experience for what we expected to be a memorable meal.

Incredible - what a stunning experience. Sat on the patio and the view is as beautiful as the meals. Staff are well trained and polite.
