In the iconic Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, you’ll be welcomed by a sea of smiling faces. Behind the scenes, an ensemble of passionate chefs, led by the meticulous eye of head chef Nathan Clarke, orchestrate a symphony of gastronomic brilliance. The former fine-dining luxury of The Test Kitchen has been softened, with cutlery housed in pewter tankards on tables still covered in white linen. Humbling service elevates the dining experience. Passion and purpose resonate throughout, with each team member exuding enthusiasm and dedication. Here, the kitchen isn’t just a place of heat and pressure; it’s a vibrant stage where every beat is felt, creating an edible future.

Clarke’s journey from kitchen sculler to cooking maestro embodies the essence of this mentorship programme. Aspiring students learn under the tutelage of culinary luminary Luke Dale Roberts and his seasoned management team, being mentored and compensated for their dedication to mastering the craft.

From Cape Malay to Asian delights on two enticing menu options: indulge in the casual offerings of the à la carte menu featuring Wagyu burgers and comforting classics, or opt for the curated ‘Fully Fledged’ set menu. From the tantalising Korean-fried chicken with ponzu emulsion to the exquisite lobster bao accompanied by the city’s finest chips, every plate tells a story of craftsmanship and global inspiration. Savour the vivacious flavours of prawn dumplings immersed in fragrant broth, or the artistry of duck ravioli presented with understated elegance.

    Our visit was a treat to celebrate a 60th Birthday and it was a wonderful choice. From the welcome at the door, to the friendly, attentive (but not fussy) service, the superb food and a hello from the Chef.... it was all outstanding. Every dish was delicious and we were all oohing and aahing about the flavours. Excellent value and we highly recommend.

    The Test Kitchen is The Best Kitchen. Chief Menü adorable, everything. Greetings from the house, extra oysters, spicy. The tuna tartar fresh and mild, the rock lobster perfect in curry sauce, the springbok at the point, mango sorbet fruity not to sweet, dessert chocolate a very tasty ending, the staff very, very friendly and made the lunch at its best (as usually last year).

    From the greeting upon arrival to the final goodbye, the evening was simply a great understanding of hospitality at it's best. The staff are very passionate about what they do and justifuably so. The menu's allow the kitchen to showcase seasonality, innovation and crucailly, to deliver each dish consistently and to a high standard. The atmosphere / ambience is happy and relaxed. Staff knowledge was superb and service was attentive yet unhurried. We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings and overall, the pairings were well thought out and executed well. We will definitely return!

    Same brilliant location as TTK used to be, but much better value. The tasting menu was excellent - and superbly presented. The staff as ever were BRILLIANT, remembering our last visit of a year ago! Thank you for such a great experience!
