Located in Steenberg Village, adjacent to the prestigious Steenberg Golf Estate, The Hussar Grill Constantia is somewhat reminiscent of an English gentleman’s club. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a Charles Dickens novel – complete with a library corner, mahogany wood-panelling and leather upholstery. Indulge in a perfectly aged steak and a glass of fine red wine, before retiring at the bar with a cognac.

The meal for 2 was on the whole disappointing. Starter snails served in a small dish swimming in a very bland (hardly any garlic flavour as advertised) sauce accompanied by 2 slightly burnt small pieces of toast; starter mussels drowned in an overpowering thick creamy sauce, mussels had to be searched for and when found were tasty; both steaks (sirloin and ribeye) were medium-rare as requested but both were bland and flavourless and the accompanying mushroom sauce ordered for one of the steaks also lacked flavour; the chips and spinach/butternut were good. Overall bland food poorly presented.

Hussar Grill is a great franchise, the Steenberg Village especially. Parking is easy, food of good quality and well prepared and served. I recommend them without reservation. LLB, Napa County, California

We each had a different main meal of a steak. Each one was outstanding and we were very satisified indeed.

Our meal last night was very average. It was a Sunday evening and we were sat right at the front door which was awful. They had no draught beer. No beers that we wanted and the waiter Charles was very apologetic. Beef tarter was ok. Snails were horrible and In a tasteless creamy sauce. My Greek salad wasn’t anything special. I specifically asked for very clean grilled kingkilp and it came e drenched in butter and has some kind of coating. Overcooked. As were my accompanying green beans. The wagging beef was ok apparently. Dessert was tasty and a welcome end to the meal. We were literally kicked out as the manager made some passing remark to the waiter when we ordered the last of a number of drinks. Our bill was hefty and disappointing to say the least. I’m visiting from overseas and joined a local for dinner there. Not great!
