    What a disappointing experience! The afternoon at The Creatory was supposed to be a treat and an exciting afternoon out. This is the second visit after along time, and it was like chalk and cheese! The first time we had a good introduction from the owner Candice. She gave me as the adult and well as my granddaughters all their options. Yesterday's experience was the complete opposite, the person on duty was unfriendly, unwelcoming, gave little to no explanations. She was short and curt in-between eating her sandwich and gazing at her phone, which for us turned into a disaster. There were no options presented to me which resulted in the children (Age 7-11) using the wrong paint which meant they would have to wait 7 weeks for their items to be fired. We were not given the options of using acrylic paint and glazing the items. Her solutions were to wash the items and start again! or wait 7 weeks to have items glazed. My grandchildren live in another country so not an option.

    Dear Tess, Thank you for your feedback. I’m truly sorry to hear that your recent visit to The Creatory was unpleasant. We pride ourselves on offering a warm, guided, and creative experience to every guest. Upon further review, and after speaking to our store manager Caitlyn, I’d like to offer some clarity around the events that took place during your visit. As part of our standard introduction for all clients, our team always explains the two paint options available - acrylic paint (which can be taken home on the day) and underglaze paint (which requires a 4–8 week firing process). This distinction is essential, especially for visitors who may be travelling or unable to collect items later. Caitlyn followed this same process with you, as is required of all our staff. While we understand that there may have been a miscommunication or a misunderstanding, I must respectfully note that our team did not receive the opportunity to resolve the matter calmly. The interaction escalated very quickly, and unfortunately, Caitlyn was subjected to a great deal of verbal hostility. This behaviour disrupted not only our team but also other guests in the studio at the time. In addition, it’s very important to highlight that after continuing to complete the painting activity, you and your grandchildren exited the studio without settling the bill for the following items: 3 x Ceramic Bunnies @ R180 each 1 x Ceramic Planter Pot @ R200 1 x Studio Fee @ R85 Total: R825 This remains unpaid. Unfortunately, exiting without payment is classified as theft of services, and under normal circumstances, this would be grounds for further action as it has placed our studio in a difficult position. Our studio is monitored by CCTV, and the unpaid items were noted by our team. While this has placed us in a challenging position, we have chosen not to pursue the matter further to avoid further conflict - a decision made in kindness and with the intention of moving forward positively. We remain committed to creating a friendly, creative, and respectful space for all our guests as well as team members as it part of our core values, and hope this message provides more clarity on the events from our side.     The Creatory is not a restaurant, it is creative studio and is exceptional. I suggest the booking slots be increased to 3 hours to allow sufficient time to complete paintings and crafts without rushing. Had a wonderful experience and will return with my family and friends. Daksha Mahabeer, Jhb

    Great value for money. We enjoyed painting pottery and had assistance when needed. I would prefer a wider range of paint colours but overall a great experience and we will go back again.
