Qunu at the Saxon Hotel is Johannesburg’s jewel of luxurious and memorable dining. Named after the village where Nelson Mandela grew up, it skillfully blends African and international flavours on a diverse and meticulously crafted menu. In addition to two, three and four courses, there’s a six-course tasting menu that showcases culinary artistry, with perfect wine pairings. Opulence, sophisticated decor and warm lighting make it ideal for special occasions and intimate dinners.

Defining Qunu is chef Matthew Foxon’s commitment to sourcing local ingredients and his hands-on approach to selecting produce. An example of the culinary prowess is the seared scallops served with masala cream, curry leaf oil and a charred carrot tartare. The scallops are cooked to perfection, tender and flavourful and the accompanying masala cream adds an indulgent touch. Vegetarians will appreciate the melanzane raviolo which is paired with a smoked pomodoro and Parmesan foam, a harmonious blend of flavours and textures.

The service is exemplary with attentive professional staff who are passionate about providing an outstanding dining experience. The sommeliers are praised for their expertise and ability to

    Qunu Restaurant at Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa was a lovely experience in a beautiful setting. Food, service with care, and pianist was outstanding - the attention to every little detail and making us feel extra special. Delicious and beautifully plated fine dining. Best Venison I have ever had, and the Waygu pan seared, dramatic flair flambéing and sauced in front of us was exemplary. Pity that the American guests were so loud.

    Service is always great… we were well taken care of, great wine selection, the menu just doesn’t have a lot of options; it’s disappointing also that there’s not much selection for vegetarian

    Qunu Restaurant was by far the best restaurant I’ve ever visited. Every dish was exceptional, and the experience left me wanting to try all their courses. Truly unforgettable.
