Muratie is as old as history itself, lying at the foot of the Simonsberg with a view of Table Mountain, guarded over by ancient oak trees you will find this old 'ruin' a treasure to be enjoyed. The old fermentation tanks in the cellar with their tartaric encrusted walls, old carpets, wooden furniture and original art is where you will enjoy honest home food, good wine and great company.

NB: Muratie Wine Estate restaurant is only open from Wednesday to Sunday however our wine tasting is open Monday to Tuesday.

We only had the wine tasting and were amazed about the history of the wines and the heritage-site Muratie as well.

As a long-time fan of Muratie I was disappointed in the food, no options for our vegetarian guest on the menu. I had checked an online menu before booking which showed fish on the menu but there were no fish or even chicken options. The only option was to convert the starter calamari into a main which was very disappointing, a bed of lettuce with one egg and a scattering of crumbed calamari for over R200. The lamb and pork, in particular, were dry. While our waitress was sweet, the service was lacklustre and after ordering we did not see her again and had to get up and find someone to ask for anything we needed. We asked to replace a dirty, chipped glass but she never returned. Always love the venue but the standard has definitely dropped.

Great atmosphere and location, an older venue which has its charm but it shows.

This was a truly superb experience food wise (definitely the BEST quiche I have ever eaten). The garden we sat in was lovely and the huge cockerel that wandered around entertaining us all was a bonus. Service could have been more efficient but I think our waiter was relatively new. His attitude was warm and we could tell he was aiming to be better, which was to his credit. I would suggest to everyone that if you haven’t experienced Muratie, do it now. ⭐️
