By embracing their roots, the Zaki family has created a harmonious combination of baked goods that masterfully transport those fortunate enough to consume them to another world… fabulous flavours not usually savoured in South Africa, melt-in-the-mouth concoctions entwined with tastes of foreign shores – perfumed with rose water, dates, za’atar and the prettiest éclairs delicately dressed in translucent pastels. Just Teddy is a wonderland that transcends pâtisserie. There’s plenty of French flair, but there’s something more that makes it quite unique – ambrosial tastes which keep customers coming back time and again to enjoy another adventure.

A terrible experience. Booked three months before from the UK based on a recommendation as a great afternoon tea which is our thing (with the Mount Nelson in Cape Town being our favorite), expecting a great patisserie experience. We paid up-front and got a confirmation of booking e-mail. The booking was re-confirmed by e-mail on the day and we e-mailed with our vegetarian preferences. We spent £50 on Ubers there and back. Arrived to be told they had no record and they kept us waiting standing around for 15 mins then said go to their other branch 20 mins away as they were not doing afternoon tea, We refused and demanded money back which they at first flatly refused. After a further ten minutes of phone calls with their other branch they offered us a free snack lunch and our money back. This was no consolation for traveling a long distance for an experience on our holiday. There were many opportunities for the system to pick up an error but they were clearly ignored and the experience was just not provided. I think this was total management incompetence rather than anything else. This is a totally mismanaged business with no link between bookings and service and I would avoid it and go to other suppliers.

Disappointing Experience for a Special Occasion I recently hosted a baby shower at **Just Teddy, Nelson Mandela Square**, where we had arranged for high tea at 2 pm. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short of expectations, especially considering the reputation of their Hyde Park location. Upon arrival, our table was not ready, and we had to wait for 20 minutes, which was inconvenient for a pre-planned event. Worse, when one of the guests asked about our table, the staff's response was unprofessional, telling them to "go find them, they must be somewhere." A guest had requested a cup of coffee at 2pm (the start of the high tea), however was told that she could not order the coffee as she was limited to only the tea/coffee served with the high tea. When she advised she was happy to pay, the waiter responded with I’ll bring you a mimosa instead. Once seated, service continued to disappoint. The food arrived a full hour after we were seated (after multiple follow ups from myself), with the tea and coffee taking another 1hour 30 minutes after ordering them. A simple request for a jug of water also took +20 minutes, arriving only after a further follow up. Some guests even had to walk to the counter to get attention, as it was impossible to flag down anyone to assist us. While I appreciate that the waiter showed concern about food allergies and made efforts to ensure the food was safe to eat, this was one of the few highlights of the experience. We had requested two servings to be eggless, but out of 8 items per tray, unfortunately only 4 were eggless. To top it off, some of the falafel balls were off and inedible. The tea selection was also underwhelming. Despite their wide menu, very few years and coffees were available. There was no matcha, nor were they able to make any freezo coffees. Given that we spent a significant amount of money to celebrate a special event, the service and food quality were disappointing. Compared to their Hyde Park branch, this location is far from meeting expectations a stark comparison to their Hyde Park counterpart, and I will not recommend it

The pastries were stale because they were made in advance in Hyde Park. I had informed them that I was lactose intolerant but no provision was made because they can’t change the menu. Why did they not tell me that when I booked.

Certainly! Here’s the revised version: --- I made a reservation and paid the deposit for a high tea well in advance. However, upon arrival, the table was not set up as expected. When the waitstaff eventually prepared the table, it was not done properly or to the usual standard, which was quite disappointing. Additionally, the area we were seated in was extremely squashed, causing further discomfort for my guests. This caused my guests to wait unnecessarily and spoiled the surprise for a birthday celebration. Given the price per person, I anticipated a higher level of service. Despite this, our waiter provided excellent service.

Really enjoyed the High Tea experience! The savoury and sweet items were delicious and we loved the attention to detail. I asked for something special for my sister as it was her birthday and they delivered!

Just teddy made our bride-to-be high tea very special. They catered to our specific dietary needs and we were very impressed with the selection of treats and drinks! The ambiance of the Sandton Just Teddy wasn’t great… it’s inside the mall and as it was winter, it was actually quite cold with breezes coming in from the various mall entrances. Maybe some kind of heating could be used to improve the comfort. Overall a pleasant experience!
