The old stable, dated 1767, houses the recently restored restaurant, a charming blend of past and present. Features like the original stone floor and wooden mangers blend seamlessly with modern, comfortable furniture while historic photographs and bespoke blue Dutch tiles line the old walls.

Meals are also served outside on the grassed terrace which boasts a spectacular view of the Boland mountains and is surrounded by a neat, colourful garden. Dishes have been designed to complement the Groot Phesantekraal wines with generous flavours and modern flourishes.

My second visit in a week. Love the ambience. My only complaint is the sirloin steak….ordered that on my first visit. Was a piece of rubber. Everything else on the lunch menu was delicious.

Waitron was attentive but unfortunately the smoked fish cakes with eggs, hollandaise, spinach and chives had to be sent back, the eggs too runny in spite of being specifically ordered "hard". 2nd time, still soft and runny. Everyone else had already finished their breakfast so the eggs remained uneaten.

I’m really quite disappointed about my recent experience. The day started off wonderfully with a tasting (Nombulelo was delightful) and the wines, on point. When we moved to the recently renovated dining area, the experience took a nose dive. Instead of being accommodating, the Waitor seemed more interested in his commission, the food was beyond mediocre for the cost (watery mussels that tasted like sweet curry powder and meat that was sinuey and undercooked - great portion but the kitchen really let the team down!) When I came home and unpacked my wine purchases, a bottle of the Marizanne was missing. When I called the manager Prosper, he said they were sold out and that my best bet would be to come back and enjoy the bottle at the estate!!! I mean, wow. I generally hope the owners and managers take this review as constructive criticism.

I had made my reservation via Dineplan, so was therefore not informed that we had limited time at our stunning outside table, but Abigail our helpful waitron soon informed us once we had finished our yummy meal we could move to the "public" area of comfy couches etc and continue enjoy our time. We also weren't informed of the cost of the "bottomless Mimosa drinks", but thankfully a restaurant manager adjusted our bill....and we all left happy + content. Wonderful experience on our doorstep....Well done Groot Phesantekraal

What a lovely breakfast in a lovely setting. The garden is beautiful and tranquil and the view so relaxing. The service was amazing, my Mom said it was the best peri-peri chicken livers she has ever had, the fishcakes were so crispy and the mimosas were filled to the brim. Loved it and will be back to taste the rest of the menus.
