We we were served by a gentleman called Hlanganani who we later learned was being assessed as a potential waiter. He was excellent. Just the right balance between attentive and non-intrusive. He’s a real asset

We sat outside in the garden. A beautiful setting and the food was excellent. Service was also on song so a great time was had by us all.

With the weather being so windy last evening, we were moved indoors. The other indoor room looked so pretty, but we were happy where we were seated and proceeded to order. The food order was taken before the drink order, which we could not understand but were still happy to comply. She also mentioned the wine bucket is next to my husband because it is easier for him to top up for the ladies - isn't that your job as a waitron? Even as a joke, it was delivered in poor taste. When meals were finally served, the server was stretched across in front of me to put the plate on the table - why not on the right of the diner? I asked for extra condiments to be served together with the meal - very specific I thought. It didn't arrive. No biggie again. My meal was the last to arrive after everyone was served, about 5 minutes apart - why are the dishes not served together? When it arrived, the inside of the fish was bright pink - I asked another waitron if that is how it is cooked? He said no, and brought it back. Our table's waitron come back and asked if I want that 'recooked' or another dish - why is it not asked if I want it replaced with a new piece instead? I asked her if it was pre-frozen and she said yes. This is potential food poisoning. I asked for another dish instead. By the time it arrives, my husband has already finished his badly cooked steak (some parts were beautifully cooked, and then there were parts that were way overcooked.) Husband can see I am visibly upset and didn’t want to make a fuss so he finished it – the sauce was pretty good. I was still waiting after the next table were served. The waitress was floating around laughing in the meantime; after the substitute meal arrived, off she goes again, scrambling to get cutlery. I had a few bites, lost my appetite at this stage and asked for a box – simple request. With a black face and a challenging tone, she asks if there is something wrong with the dish, but the tone is accusatory instead of genuine concern. I explained I have lost my appetite and that disdain in her eyes was clear when I said this is one of the worst service I have received in a while. She was behind me and bumped my left shoulder without much of an apology – again, poor schoolyard behaviour. When she asked if we want any dessert, I was ready to hightail out of this horrible dinner service and told her “Definitely not.” For a hotel, we expected better hospitality than this. We can brush off small details but after all we are not just paying for food when we dine out – we are looking for a good experience. We will not be back and will let everyone know about this shabby experience. We went to Mexico Locale down the road thankfully – they might not be a big establishment like you yet but they made us feel so welcome with their sleek service and beautiful desserts.
