In December 2004, owner Niel du Bois followed his heart, gave his creative spirit free reins, took the plunge and did what many people only dream about – opening an open air restaurant literally on a beach. Where the best seafood is prepared and enjoyed in Spartan surroundings – just like on the West Coast.

The first De Vette Mossel Beach Seafood Restaurant was born. On an isolated and pristine beach at Groot Brak River near Mossel Bay.

Thanks to the continuous support by our newly found Mossel friends, De Vette Mossel grew and grew. At De Vette Mossel your hosts are local Hermanus residents, Gustave and Charne du Bois. They grew up with De Vette Mossel and love the sea and all it has to offer, as well as hosting guests.

    We did not like the idea of the people sitting on the long table in our view 3 people smoking vape when everyone ells must go outside to the smoking area, we also did not appreciate it when a guest decided to place their dirty plates on our table when we went to the toilet (our table no.02) This caused us to be uncomfortable and did not stay for the desert.

    Ons was teleurgesteld dat dit potjies was. Ons hou meer van gebraaide vis. Die mossel voorgereg en Snoek was baie lekker gewees! Dit was nie vir ons waarde vir geld nie.

    What a beautiful experience. Got more than expected. Food the vibe everything was just lovely. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. Especially those looking for a relaxed child friendly atmosphere
