Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making.

In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier.

We have been to many wine tastings, but we were thrilled by this one and the winery. We have tried several times to get an appointment, as both the Porcupine Ridge Sauvignon and the Choclolate Block are a must in our wine fridge. Thank you very much!

This is not an ordinary tasting - it's a whole experience that is just fantastic from start to finish. From the beautiful setting, the interesting cellar tour to the high quality wines it's just brilliant - and all capped by the easy candour of the wine maker throughout. Has made it an immediate new must-do on our next trip to Franschhoek!
