Iron Steak and Bar

(Bree Street, Cape Town)
4.6 stars

When it comes to steakhouses, Iron Steak on Bree Street stands out from the crowd. From start to finish, your dining experience will feature great food, great drinks, and even better vibes. As you settle in, enjoy complimentary popcorn (popped in wagyu beef drippings!), while servers guide you through the weekly specials on the chalkboard. Don’t miss their flagship dish, The Flat Iron steak, sourced locally from grass-fed cattle and grilled on their imported Spanish Vulcano Grez grill – it’ll be hard not to lick the plate! Pair your meal, with a variety of tasty sides and choose from a selection of wines, beers, and classic cocktails from the 1920s-inspired bar. Love a special? Book your table for their R99 Wagyu Wednesday burger deal.

The Iron steak was recommended by 2 locals and it did not disappoint. Service by Bella was fantastic! The food was outstanding. The sides were all amazing and more than enough as a side dish. We did the Porter House & The T bone and were solid. I would say after dining in SA for 3 weeks this restaurant for steak is top 3. You can’t go wrong by choosing the Iron Steak while in Cape Town. Enjoy.

Che Argentine Grill

(Parkwood, Johannesburg)
4.5 stars

Che Argentine Grill is not your average steakhouse; it holds a special place in the hearts of many as their go-to spot for an amazing steak. The menu is centred around the Argentinians’ love for open-flame cooking and the kitchen belts out a comforting heat from the crackling pizza oven and the wood-fired grilling station. There’s a variety of unique cuts of meat available, each better than the last, but the spider steak – a highly underrated cut that’s sadly not on many menus – is a must-try!

Situated in a vent spot in Joburg, Che stands out for its excellence. The decor was perfect but not as perfect as our food – a must try is the rib eye and spider steak… I’ll be dreaming about it for days.

Gaucho

(Linden, Randburg)
4.5 stars

From Peru to Chile, Gaucho draws inspiration from across South America and the vibrant Asian and Mediterranean communities that call the continent home. Using traditional cooking methods, their chefs fire up the grill to serve open-flame specialties, including whole grilled fish, chicken, and seafood. But the real showstoppers on the menu are the premium cuts of meat, seasoned the traditional way and cooked over an open flame. The Parrillada, which serves two, offers a taste of everything from rump and lamb riblets to chorizo and chicken, served on a parrilla grill with chimichurri verde and rojo salsas. It’s a great meal to share!

Portions are decent. Very tasty food. Prawns were awesome, steak cooked to perfection. No space left for dessert. Maybe next time.
