We are very excited to welcome Franschhoek’s newest pop-up restaurant to Dineplan. South Africa’s very first Michelin-starred chef, Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen, has just opened bookings for his new restaurant at La Motte Estate in the Franschhoek Valley. Set inside the tiny, historic Veepos cottage, which sits right in the middle of Franschhoek’s most picturesque lavender fields, JAN Franschhoek promises to delight guests with an exceptional food and wine experience this summer.
“I remember always seeing this little house in the middle of the Franschhoek Valley lavender fields at La Motte and wondering why it was not a super exclusive little eatery. Years later and JAN Franschhoek will be opening its doors to the culinarily curious.” – Jan Hendrik
Based on the popular TV series, JAN RSVP, Chef Jan’s new restaurant will be open from 1 December 2022 through to the end of May 2023 and will treat diners to a rare glimpse into what life was like in the valley in the early 19th century. With a zero-waste and zero single-use plastic philosophy, the menu will take guests on a culinary journey centred around nostalgic food stories and memories.
“My years in the winelands formed such a big part of my culinary and design training that I have always wanted to come back for more. I guess it’s like drinking a good wine. Once you’ve had a taste, you want to keep on savouring it.” – Jan Hendrik
The unique dining experience – half tasting menu and half à la carte dining – will allow guests to choose between the Mountain Menu and River Menu. Using only local and seasonal ingredients, Jan takes inspiration from regional cuisine and his incredible library of cookbooks – one of the largest collections in South Africa.
Join Jan and his team for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and be wined and dined for R2,500 per person, including wine pairing. Limited to 16 people per evening, dinner starts at 19h00 but guests are asked to arrive at the La Motte Manor House meeting point at 18h30 to kick-off their experience.
The restaurant opens its doors on Thursday, 1 December 2022. Bookings are now open.
Book Now“As a family, we are always looking for interesting and creative ways to share our passion for wine and food with our guests. We’ve been fans of Jan Hendrik’s dinner table storytelling since enjoying his Michelin starred experience in Nice and we are honoured and excited to host him and his team in the Franschhoek Valley. We can’t wait to offer guests a delicious once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience at La Motte.” – Hein Koegelenberg, CEO of La Motte
