FYN Restaurant named ‘Best in Africa’ and No. 37 in the world

by | 19 July 2022

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list features Cape Town’s FYN Restaurant at No. 37, making South Africa home to three of the world’s top 100 restaurants.

Earlier this month, The World’s 50 Best unveiled their list of restaurants ranking from number 51 to 100. Featuring venues from all corners of the globe, we were very proud to see Wolfgat and La Colombe make the list.

To add to the Cape’s culinary accolades, during yesterday’s live awards ceremony, which marked the 20th anniversary of the annual ranking, FYN Restaurant was awarded the number 37 spot – making South Africa home to three of the world’s best restaurants!

“We’ve got unbelievable news to share with you,” FYN announced this morning, “[we] placed #37 and Best in Africa on The World’s 50 Best list, just 3 and a half years after opening.”

Ranking 92 in 2021, FYN has broken into the Top 50 list for the first time. “With produce from the best farms and fisheries in South Africa, the restaurant is Japanese at its core,” writes 50 Best, suggesting that you order the guinea fowl tsukune and the cabbage and daikon maki with ponzu gel when you next visit.

Whether you’re looking to experience their kaiseki-style menu for the first time, or plan a repeat visit, secure your reservation as quickly as possible. Having earned the title of Africa’s best restaurant, tables are sure to get booked up in advance.

We send our whole-hearted congratulations to Chef Peter Tempelhoff, Chef Ashley Moss, Jennifer Huge and their entire team on this incredible achievement.
